"the people stare" - lyrics by me and Michael Friedman

I AM STANDING ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF A TOWN
ALL THESE PEOPLE STARE
THEY STARE

THE ROAD IS FORKED DOES IT LEAD ME TO MY HOME?
AND THE PEOPLE STARE
THEY STARE

OUTSIDE OF A BAR
THE PEOPLE STARE

THE ROAD SEEMS DIFFERENT OR MAYBE I HAVE CHANGED
I WONDER IF I’VE CHANGED
I’VE CHANGED

AND MAYBE EVERY TOWN YOU SEE IS SOMEHOW THE SAME
EVERYTHING’S THE SAME
THE SAME

I STOP TO TIE MY SHOE
THE PEOPLE STARE

DO I KNOW THEM?
DO THEY KNOW ME?

I REMEMBER SOMETHING
CHARLIE AND A LIGHT
A TRAIN A SHIP
THE SKY SO BRIGHT
ABOVE
AND BEFORE ALL THAT
AN EMPTY SPACE
A STARLESS NIGHT

THEN THEY ASK ME IF THIS PLACE IS MY HOME
IS THIS MY HOME?
MY HOME

I LOOK OUT TO THE STREET BELOW
THIS THING IS CALLED A WINDOW
AND IT DOESN’T CHANGE

THAT THING IS CALLED A CHURCH
THE BELLS ARE RINGING
THE CHURCH HAS CHANGED
